Market Day

Way back in 1987, independent travel to China was just beginning so there was little help for people like me, searching Shanghai for the office that sold tickets on the barges that went up the Yangtze River. But that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, because I ended up wandering around the old city and stumbling upon an entirely different world, where eels and chickens and pigeons were being sold on every conceivable inch of narrow alley and side street.
